Reading Goals for Bout of Books January 2015

BoB12-200x200This is a a follow-up post to the one I made an hour ago talking about my last minute entry to Bout of Books January 2015. If you want to go read that and learn about the challenge you can click here to go check that out.

I have spent the last hour or so trying to decide what I want to read during the challenge this week. My choices may be subject to change but here is my list so far:

1. Graphic Novel Monday

I received a few hardback graphic novels for Christmas this year so as part of Bout of Books I am going to read them all in one day. It will take a bit of work but I know I can do it. Also I promised someone I would loan them one when I am finished with it so the sooner I get them read the better. I love comic books and graphic novels. If you would like to hear more about them on here feel free to ask questions or just let me know if you want more graphic novel related posts. They are books after all.

So on Monday I will be reading:

  • Superman Wonder Woman Volume One
  • The Suicide Squad Volume One
  • The Suicide Squad Volume Two

 2. Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson

10188580I discovered this book when I was on the hunt for something similar to the Mara Dyer series and it sounded interesting.

Summary from GoodReads:

“17-year-old Lila has two secrets she’s prepared to take to the grave. The first is that she can move things just by looking at them. The second is that she’s been in love with her brother’s best friend, Alex, since forever.

After a mugging exposes her unique ability, Lila decides to run to the only people she can trust—her brother and Alex. They live in Southern California where they work for a secret organization called The Unit, and Lila discovers that the two of them are hunting down the men who murdered her mother five years before. And that they’ve found them.

In a world where nothing and no one is quite as they seem, Lila quickly realizes that she is not alone—there are others out there just like her—people with special powers—and her mother’s killer is one of them…”

3. Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill

0575079126.02.LZZZZZZZHorns was one of my favourite reads of last year so I have been itching to get my hands on more of Joe Hill’s horror novels. His novels are very adult so maybe you should avoid them if you are a bit young and overly sensitive. You can read my review of Horns here.

Summary from GoodReads:

“Aging, self-absorbed rock star Judas Coyne has a thing for the macabre — his collection includes sketches from infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy, a trepanned skull from the 16th century, a used hangman’s noose, Aleister Crowley’s childhood chessboard, etc. — so when his assistant tells him about a ghost for sale on an online auction site, he immediately puts in a bid and purchases it.

The black, heart-shaped box that Coyne receives in the mail not only contains the suit of a dead man but also his vengeance-obsessed spirit. The ghost, it turns out, is the stepfather of a young groupie who committed suicide after the 54-year-old Coyne callously used her up and threw her away. Now, determined to kill Coyne and anyone who aids him, the merciless ghost of Craddock McDermott begins his assault on the rocker’s sanity.”

I think that should be enough to keep me going for this week. I might decide to tack on an extra book or two if I think I have the time but I am happy enough with that list so far.

If you are entering Bout of Books tomorrow, what are you reading?
