Reading TBR

Bout of Books 21: TBR

I orginally was going to give Bout of Books a miss this month but I have been on such a good reading kick this week I though why not? It couldn’t hurt to sign up, right? I was planning on reading a lot anyway.

If you don’t already know Bout of Books is a readathon that occurs multiple times a year. You simply have to read as much as you can during the week and there are mini challenges that you can take part in throughout the week. Here is an extract from there website for more info:

“The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 8th and runs through Sunday, January 14th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 21 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team”

Here is what I will be reading over the next week:

I am being very good to myself this week. Instead of setting my usual crazy Bout of Books TBR I plan on reading only one novel and two graphic novels. The Historian is a very large and long book so I didn’t want to try to read a second novel this week. I might throw in an extra book or two if I have the time.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

This book has been on my TBR list for a long time. I bought a copy a few months ago after a lot of people told me to read it and I just never got around to it. So I am finally going to read it.

From what I have been told this book is a slightly modern take on the Dracula story. Sort of an unofficial Dracula sequel. I am going into it pretty blind. Dracula is one of my favourite novels of all time so this better be good.

Another (Volume 2) by Yukito Ayatsuji

This is a manga series that many people have been begging me to read. I love horror manga but I haven’t read as many as I would like to. I finished the first volume last night and I wasn’t going to read the second one until a character had a little accident with an umbrella and that got me a little hooked.

Summary from Goodreads:

“In the spring of 1998, Kouichi Sakakibara transfers to Yomiyama North Middle School. In class, he develops a sense of unease as he notices that the people around him act like they’re walking on eggshells, and students and teachers alike seem frightened. As a chain of horrific deaths begin to unfold around him, he comes to discover that he has been placed in the cursed Class 3 in which the student body head count is always one more than expected. Class 3 is haunted by a vengeful spirit responsible for gruesome deaths in an effort to satisfy its spite. To stop the vicious cycle gripping his new school, Kouichi decides to get to the bottom of the curse, but is he prepared for the horror that lies ahead…?”

Sandman (Volume 3) by Neil Gaiman

This Bout of Books is a proper TBR pile  clean out because this is another book I have been wanting to get to for a long time. Sandman is one of my favourite graphic novel series’ and Neil Gaiman is probably my all time favourite writer. He could write a book on wallpaper and I would probably read it.

Summary of Volume 1 from Goodreads:

“In PRELUDES & NOCTURNES, an occultist attempting to capture Death to bargain for eternal life traps her younger brother Dream instead. After his 70 year imprisonment and eventual escape, Dream, also known as Morpheus, goes on a quest for his lost objects of power. On his arduous journey Morpheus encounters Lucifer, John Constantine, and an all-powerful madman.

Will you be taking part in Bout of Books next week? If so, what will you be reading?
There is still plenty of time to sign up if you want to join in.

If you want to keep track of my Bout of Books progress or generally want a readathon pal I will be posting throughout the readathon on  GoodReadsInstagram (@Belle_and_books) and Twitter
